My Makeup Story

my makeup story tag

I have been seeing this tag float around lately and I have been loving reading other people's makeup stories so I decided that it was time to share mine.

How old were you when you started wearing makeup?

I remember playing around with my mum's eyeshadows and red lipstick when I was about 10 but I don't think that it counts! The first time that wore makeup was for a Christmas concert when I was in the first year of secondary school. I was so excited at the thought of having someone do my makeup for me!

I am going to guess and say that I was about 13 when I actually started going out with makeup. The only things that I would do were probably black eyeliner on my waterline (the horrors), shimmery pink eyeshadow and some mascara. When I was 14 I began watching Youtubers and started to experiment a bit more.

How did you get into makeup?

As I previously said, I owe all of my makeup skills to beauty Youtubers. I would watch tutorial after tutorial and would try to recreate the looks (which is something that I usually failed to do)

What are some of your favourite brands?

My favourites have to be Essence Cosmetics, Rimmel and Kiko. I also love Makeup Revolution for their palettes and Sleek for the Matte Me lipsticks.

What does makeup mean to you?

It's a fun way for me to be creative and if I could I would spend all day applying makeup and trying out new things. I always feel like I forget about everything when I am playing around with beauty products. I also use makeup as a way to cover my acne so I also see it as a confidence booster.

If you could only wear four products on your face, what would they be?

This is quite easy actually since my everyday makeup only includes four items. They are the Rimmel match perfection concealer, Soap & Glory Supercat eyeliner, Kiko tech curve mascara and Barry M eyebrow pencil.

What is your favourite thing about makeup?

I love that makeup allows people to be creative and I love how versatile it can be. You can even change your face to the point that you transform into a different person!

What do you think of drugstore vs high end makeup?

I have not yet made any high end purchases so I can't really say anything about this. But the only thing that I can say it that you don't have to spend all of your money to get some really amazing makeup products.

What is the one makeup trend you've never understood?

There aren't a lot that I don't like but I always found heavy contouring a bit too extreme. Apart from that trend I have also never understood why a few months back all of the beauty pages started saying that glossy eyelids were the next big thing! (Hint: they are not)

When did you first start wearing makeup?

  1. I definitely agree about contouring - I think it looks good on youtube/instagram but in real life it would just look a bit scary!

  3. Can't agree more about contouring too! And it is such a trend that not everyone knows how to wear it good and as a result, we see a lot of weird looking makeups out there! I find most of youtube tutorials looking good only on screen :)
I started wearing makeup around 18! Thanks for sharing and have a great week!

  6. Every girl who has elder sisters that does make up, will definitely want to try at a very tender age. This is d care of my seven year old niece who has started playing around with her mum's make up... I won't be surprise when in the next 5 years she might decide to start wearing it in school and develop love for it as a career.

I started make up in the university. Most Nigerian girls who born in the 80"s and grew up in the 90's, started make up in university. But today's kids have already started developing love for it from tender age. Times have changed.

    Good story girl.

  10. Great post! I completely agree about not having to spend loads of money to find good quality makeup products. I've found that the high end products I use are no different to drugstore! Would love if you could check out my new post? XX
