Lake Como, Italy

A Day at Lake Como

During July, my friends and I headed to the northern Italian city of Milan where we spent a week eating good food, wondering about various cities and also encountering a few hiccups (more on this in posts to come). I will be publishing more posts about the places we visited but for now I will be telling you all about Lake Como as it definitely stood out for me. We visited at the end of our holiday so it was a nice change of landscape from cities to mountains.

On this day I wore a new dress from Zaful. I'm loving wrap dresses lately and I'm also a little obsessed with yellow so I was immediately drawn to it. It's also really comfortable and light so a perfect choice for summer. You may also remember it from a wishlist I published a few months back. Here are a few other wrap dresses from Zaful you may like:

Varenna

Our trip started from the lake side town of Varenna which is on the middle right side of Lake Como and about 1 hour away by train from Milan.  This pretty town has the most amazing views of the lake and the shore is lined with colourful houses and boats. This place is perfect for strolling along the promenade and there are many photo opportunities.

For lunch we ate at Restaurant Olivedo which is opposite the little port of Varenna. There are many restaurants that all boast amazing views so none of the restaurants are a bad option! Also don't forget to finish the meal with an Italian gelato.

Bellagio

We then headed to the town of Bellagio which is a short ferry ride away from Varenna. This town is found in the middle of the lake and is very popular with tourists. We walked all the way to 'La Punta' which is the edge of Bellagio. Here is a little park were you can sit in the shade of the trees and enjoy the views of the lake and mountains around you. There is also a rocky beach were you can swim if you packed your swimsuit or just dip your feet and cool off from the heat.

Bellagio's centre is also beautiful but we did not visit it and instead stayed in the park all afternoon which was really relaxing.

Lecco

Our last stop of the day was the town of Lecco which is found at the bottom right of the lake. The ferry from Bellagio took nearly 2 hours and to be honest I slept a good part of the way there. This is not to say that the views from the ferry were not beautiful but I was a bit too tired. When we finally arrived to Lecco we headed straight to a pizza place as we were starving after the long trip. After strolling a bit through the streets we headed to the train station and back to Milan.

Looking back I must say that the long ferry ride to Lecco was a bit too much and a visit to a place in the middle area of the lake would have been better. This does not mean that I enjoyed the day any less and I hope to go back soon. If you're ever in the northern area of Italy, Lake Como is definitely worth a visit.
